Menus · Oyster Bay

The current card.

It moves. Fish lands four mornings a week and what is best that day goes on the board, so treat this page as the shape of the menu rather than the whole of it. If you have a question about a dish, ask — we like it when you do.

Provisional pre-opening menu. Dishes and prices will settle before the doors open.

Before you order

Allergies, diets and the honest answers.

Do I have to sit at the counter to eat omakase?

Yes. Omakase is a counter service — 10 seats, two seatings a night, and each piece is handed straight across as it is made. The dining room orders from the à la carte card instead, which has the same fish on it.

Does hoshi have vegetarian and vegan options?

Yes, though we are a fish restaurant and will say so plainly. Vegetarian and vegan plates run through the card — edamame, cucumber sunomono, agedashi tofu, shishito peppers off the grill, king oyster mushroom, the kappa and oshinko rolls, the Garden roll, cold soba and the yuzu sorbet. Tell us when you book and the kitchen will build a proper meal rather than a plate of sides.

Can you cook for a gluten allergy?

Much of the card is naturally gluten free and marked GF, and we keep tamari for anyone who needs it. Soy sauce, tempura, noodles and some marinades all contain wheat. Please tell us when you book and remind your server when you sit: our kitchen handles wheat, so we can be careful but we cannot promise a dedicated surface.

What does “market price” mean on the uni?

Exactly what it says — sea urchin moves in price week to week depending on where it is coming from and how it is running. Ask and we will tell you the number before you order it. We would rather do that than print a price we have to keep crossing out.

Is there anything for someone who does not eat raw fish?

A whole side of the card. Everything off the robata grill, the black cod, the tempura, karaage, chawanmushi, the wagyu don, the noodles and the whole salt-grilled branzino are all cooked. It is a perfectly good dinner with nothing raw on it.

Do you make the big deep-fried rolls with sauce on top?

No. The roll list is deliberately short and mostly traditional, and that is the house style rather than an oversight. If a crunchy dragon roll is what the evening calls for, we will happily point you somewhere good.

Do I need a reservation?

For the counter, always — there are only 10 seats and both seatings book out. For the dining room it is strongly recommended. Online booking opens with the restaurant; until then, send a request through the site or email hello@hoshiob.com.
